About This Project

Hot 450°F oil, daily washdowns, and years of production had eroded the concrete to exposed aggregate across a potato processing facility in Presque Isle, ME. Oil had soaked deep into the slab, and previous epoxy systems had failed because they could not withstand the heat. FDA and SQF citations turned a flooring failure into a compliance issue. Production could allow only a three-day shutdown.

Tufco rebuilt 5,000 sq ft with Tufcrete reinforced by expanded metal — a mechanically bonded, impervious system installed by our own crews. All work was completed in three days, with no drain work required.

The Solution

Tufco’s own W-2 crews — no subcontractors, no “certified installers” — prepared the damaged substrate, mechanically anchored expanded metal across the work area, and installed 5,000 sq ft of Tufcrete Flooring over the reinforced surface. The expanded metal creates a mechanical bond to the concrete, helping the floor resist the heat and oil exposure that defeated previous epoxy systems.

The finished system is seamless and impervious, with a non-skid texture for safer footing around wet, oil-prone processing equipment. It is built to hold up to 450°F oil exposure while eliminating the porous, eroded surface behind FDA and SQF citations. The facility returned to service after a complete three-day installation.
